Cult Studies

April 2024-now

Society & culture

This project aims to explore the impact of social changes and environment on human behavior and beliefs. From both sociological and psychological aspects, I examine how social groups take actions and ideas to the extreme.

The world is transforming at a remarkable pace. Amid these changes, I find myself both a witness and a participant, whether consciously or not. Observing today’s turbulence, I recognize echoes of earlier eras—periods when uncertainty gave rise to new forms of collective belief. In those times, cult groups emerged as social inventions: responses to instability and amplifiers of human vulnerabilities under pressure. This parallel raises a question—might similar groups, adapted to modern conditions, already be among us?

I argue that the adaptive nature of cults calls for a renewed understanding of their structure and presence today. Through a series of case studies, club activity, and creative project, I consolidate my knowledge on cult mechanisms and help my community recognize coercive control in modern social landscape.
